Earth, wind, fire and water help revive your spirit.

From as far back as Medieval times, the elements have been used for natural medicinal purposes. These included such things as;  pain relief medication, muscle relaxants, skin and body cleansers, and many other day to day remedies and treatments.

Some of these treatments were highly effective and are the basis for many of our medicines and beauty products today. If you truly think about it, many of our medicines are simply synthetic duplications of these original remedies. They are just more powerful effective versions of them.

Recent trends in the medicine industry, have seen a huge number of people opting to use these old fashioned natural remedies instead of the more traditional medicines.  Many see a huge health benefit in using natural products verses man made synthetic ones.

Doctors do not seem to agree that natural products have as much benefit as traditional medicine, but many will say that taken along with medication, they can have a huge impact and help you to heal faster.

Take for example; cranberry juice. Once overlooked – this amazing fruit is now considered to be one of the best and most widely used treatment for people with urinary tract infections.  Cranberries line the walls of the urinary tract creating a natural barrier to ward of infection.

Years ago, this kind of treatment was unheard of, and probably would have been considered absurd.

Doctors have had to take a second look at natural remedies and their effectiveness.  Although most Doctors have not entirely jumped on the band wagon, many will at least offer patients these natural remedies as a medicinal alternative. Things are  slowly changing towards a broader acceptance of these natural healing substances, but it will take a long time before they ever become mainstream medicines.

Each culture defines the elements in their own way, however, they all have many similarities.

Here are the elements as defined throughout the ages:

  • The Greeks, the Babylonians and Tibetan Monks believe the elements to be: Air, Water, Fire, Earth and Aether.
  • Hindus and Buddhists define the elements as: Vavu, Ap, Akasha, Agni and Prithvi.
  • The Chinese define the elements as:  Water, Fire, Wood, Metal and Earth.
  • The Japanese call them: Air, Water, Fire, Earth and the Void.
  • In ancient medieval times they were known as : Air, Water, Fire, Earth and Aether, Sulphur, Salt and Mercury

If you are like me, then you probably already believe in the healing powers of the elements.

Nothing relaxes or helps ease my pain more than soaking in a hot bath with lavender oil while candles burn luminously alongside my tub.  I also have a hot tub in my backyard that I spend many hours reading and relaxing in.

No matter how bad I feel or stressed out I become, once I enter the water it is almost as if a magical positive energy overtakes me. The warmth of the fire and the soothing calmness of the water leaves me feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.  The effects of it may not last forever, but for those few minutes, it is worth every moment.

Revive day spa has a special massage called the Chakra Balancing Massage.  It is an innovative in-salon spa ritual steeped in the tradition of Ayurveda, the ancient healing art of India.  The treatment merges massage and guided meditation with our Chakra Balancing Blend aromas to open and balance the chakra’s energy centres of the body.  This ritual features deep tissue massage on the back and spinal muscles, foot reflexology and energy work for the Chakras.
